Érick de Sousa symbolizes the qualitative explosion of the best vine growersChampagne of these 20 last years, and it is what explains its place in our Classification. It exacerbates what one forgets sometimes here: the force of the soil, even if the science of the assemblies is unavoidable. Established in the middle of the Côte des blancs, its Champagne is resulting from the classified soils Grands Crus Blanc De Blancs. Érick de Sousa chose malolactic fermentationin order to make the wines rounder and more supple, and it passes its cold wine to keep all the transparency with its Champagne. He works in biological culture on his 7 ha. “This cultivation method aims at giving again with the vine a natural balance and redynamiser the microbiological life of the ground which is the driving belt of the elements of the soil to the vine. It develops and reinforces natural defenses of the vine and the assistance to express its maximum qualitative potential. We thus plow the vines with the plow to weed them and air the ground. We work out our own compost, bring to the vine preparations containing minerals, of plants (nettle, camomile, dandelion, valerian…) and other natural elements.” Superb Champagne Grand Cru cuvée des Caudalies 2003. “This bottle is resulting from an exceptional soil classified Grand Cru, doubled with old vines of more than 50 years, triplet with a culture of the vine which associates respect of the plant and of the nature which surrounds it (biodynamy)”, Érick specifies. a vintagewhich combines powerfull and length in mouth, Chardonnay bringing at the same time vividness and smoothness, with these nuances of fruits compotes, undergrowth and yellow peach, very harmonious, robust, is prevailed by slightly vanilla notes, of a long aromatic persistence. The 2002, remarkable by its complexity of aromas and its length in mouth, with the nose of smallfruits (quince, lemon), are vinous and delicate at the same time, charmer, rich and complex, of a very great elegance. “In our previous vintages, we had already a selection of old vines of more than 50 years without chaptalization, but, since 95, all these old vines of my father or my grandfather (plantation in 1933) are vinified in small barrels of oak. With the passing of years, one always finds the same vines (la Justice, la Fosse, Maladrie, les monts Chenevaux, Noyerot) in Grand Cru 100%Chardonnay. We have much complexity and of depth, the well-balanced whole by the smoothness of the soil and theChampagne lightness of chalk of our Grand Crus.” The Champagne cuvée des Caudalies brut rosé, 90% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Noir, is a great success, of very beautiful color, with the nose prevailed by the yellow fruits and the fresh flowers, of powerful mouth, perfect on shells. Its Grand Cru Blanc De Blancs Réserve is very delicate, intense with the nose, mouthfull, with the persistent fruity connotations with nuances of apple and brioche, combining roundness and vividness. Excellent brut rosé, fruity and refreshing, round, very delicate and elegant. Exceptional quality-price ratio. See also theChampagne Zoémie de Sousa.

“Concerning the quality of the vintage 2007, we specifies Charles Philipponnat, the precocity of the grape harvest was the one hasty spring result. We expected to gather the grapes about on August 20th, but the rather fresh summer a little slowed down ripening, we gathered the grapes at the beginning of September. Fortunately, the sunning and the dryness were maintained mid-August until the grape harvest with in particular a beginning of September very hot and dry, which accelerated ripening well. The type of vines all were not equal in quality. The Pinot Meunier was touched more, it is the same for the soils, in the Marne, where that was more delicate. The south of Champagne, Cézannais and Aube were wetter. There are vigilant wine growers who worked well upstream while treating with the good moment and who succeeded in controlling the attacks. In fact the first treatments are most important, they “vaccinate” the vine. The good weather of at the end of August and September a very beautiful quality as opposed to what some think there enabled us to collect will be “millésimables” in 2007, maturity was completely satisfactory out ofChampagne.” Superb Extra dry Champagne cuvée 1522, a success with this vintage 2002, with the mineral nose prevailed by fresh, intense citrus fruits stops some, a tasty and complex, harmonious wine with the palate with notes of very subtle almond and lime. Brut Royale Réserve develops fresh hazel nut a nose, a dense and complex mouth, a vinous but at the same time all in smoothness, opulent and scented Champagne, with the fruit notes compotes, ideal during a meal. Beautiful dry Champagne Sublime Réserve 2002, of a nice aromatic complexity where one finds nuances of lemon and honey, dense and distinguished at the same time, quite attractive, which is appropriate very well for a smoked salmon. The Clos des Goisses Rosé 2000 represents only negligible quantities intended for the collectors, a wine with the scents of red small fruitsgood ripe, a nice finale to the palate, very well fact which develops a complex nose where the blackberry joins raspberry, a mouth intense and refined at the same time, to lead to spiced mets or shellfish. At its sides, Grand Blanc 2002 is a very expressive Champagne, structured well, with the tropical aromas (pineapple), with nuances of fresh nut and hawthorn, very charmer. Quite as attractive, mouthfull like Réserve Millésimée rosé, with a majority of Pinot black, a very successful assembly which gives a wine of a very beautiful fullness with complexity. Superb Brut Champagne Winegrowing of the Closdes Goisses 99 (the 2000 follow), of a beautiful color but, with ripe fruit aromas quite present, with notes of lime and honey, supple and having a nice bouquet. Brut Réserve Millésimé 2000 is a success, of a beautiful pale yellow robe, with the golden reflections, it reveals a true temperament with butter notes, of hot brioche, with perfect maturity.

At the top of first classified great wines. “We market relatively old vintages, it are our philosophy, tell us Marie-Ange Robin. Here, we are conservatives for the greatest happiness of our customers. We can allow ourselves to keep the wines and prefer to store them suitably and to supervise them in our cellars, rather than to too early put them on the market. For example, our Grand Cru Valmur 2001, absolutely fabulous with drinking now (there remain to us some magna 2000, sublimes). Premier Cru Montée de Tonnerre 2005 is really exceptional, the 2006 is in the line, very promising. Our force, in these appellations where we have the most hectares, they are these pieces located particularly well at the limit of the grand crus. It remains us very little of Montmains 2001, a wine which gets much pleasure today, after 6 years of bottle. We do not have practically more than 2003, who is very charmer. Currently, Montmains 2005 is available, it is a great vintage, very beautiful, rich of a beautiful minerality, all in length, of great guard, whereas the 2006 develop notes of violet and undergrowth, one vintage very mineral, full, fresh. Blanchot, Les Field and Valmur 2004 are them also really delicious. The 2000 are of a beautiful yellow gold color, the wines are very scented with the nose as in mouth, a delight, wines very typified with the very characteristic undergrowth notes. The 2001 can be drunk now, they are very fascinating wines. To discover absolutely: Blanchot 2004 and 2005, Les Clos 2004 and 2005, Bougros 2004, which are more flattering wines, with drinking before the 2005, of the wines for ageing.” There is thus this enchanting Chablis Grand Cru Vaudésir 2005, year exceptional, all in distinction, rich in aromas as out of structure, of a great aromatic fullness in mouth (hawthorn, peach, hazel nut), very typified, a great wine which combines powerfull and suppleness perfectly, still closed, of course. Rare Grand Cru Bougros 2006, with the scents of grilled almond, yellow robe to the reflections of gold, a wine powerful and distinguished at the same time, rich with the nose as in mouth, very harmonious. Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos 2005 is resulting from 43 year old vines located on Right Bank of Serein, ground of colluviums very stony argilo-limestones on basement kimméridgien, south-south-west. The wine is a success, complex and dense, with the notes of lime and fresh small fruits, to discover on pike quenelles. Chablis Premier Cru Montmains Vieilles Vignes 2005, with prevailing of white flowers and dry small fruits, is a wine powerful and refined at the same time, of guard, perfect on an bass. Superb Chablis Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes Valmur 2006, with the intense, floral nose (Narcisse), with a point of smoked and rose, a powerful wine, all in smoothness, of unctuous mouth, a long final. The 2003, rich in aromas like of structure, quite characteristic, fleshy and nervous at the same time, all stop some like the 2002, very elegant, of great evolution also. Taste Chablis Premier Cru Montée de Tonnerre Vieilles Vignes 2005, a mineral wine, with aromas of fern and fruits fresh, rich, tasty and full, which associates fleshy and sweetness. Excellent Chablis Marie-Ange Robin Vieilles Vignes 2006, with these nuances of honeysuckle and white peach, molten and persistent mouth. The Chablis Premier Cru Vaillons 2004, which has this hazel nut nose, is a wine all stops some, very traditional. Powerful Chablis Grand Cru Blanchot Vieilles Vignes 2005, fleshy, mellow, very typical of its soil, intense with the nose as in mouth, with notes of roasted and pink, highly-strung person and tasty at the same time, of guard. Superb quality-price-pleasure ratio.

At the top of First Classified High-class wines. Here, one sticks, in family, to let express each piece as well as possible, and no vintage resembles another. “The vintage 2006, we says Gérard Tremblay, is a wine in the prolongation of the 2005, one year which gives aromas “pleasure”, if I then to say. Fortunately that the soil effect arises always well, especially for the Grand Cru which are expressed all the same them as more quickly as by the past. For the 2006, the quince, ripe fruit perfumes in particular, are very characteristic. There is very little difference between the 2005 and 2006, they are two vintages very successful, we gathered the grapes rather early, 3 days before the Côte d' Or which, she, was obstructed by the rain. We did not have any rot. The 2006 are a wine with much fleshy, with the aromas of honey, white flowers, quince, a wine which will be very pleasant in its youth but of beautiful guard too. In the 2005, one finds ripe fruit aromas but with the fleshy one and minerality, the wines have a very beautiful balance with a normal acidity, they are very powerful. The 2004 are the typical year Chablis with a perfect balance and a great minerality. ” One can only enjoy this formidable Chablis Grand Cru Vaudésir 2004, of a large smoothness in mouth, a fleshy and unctuous great wine, very typified, of a large aromatic pallet, very complex, slightly spiced, with this impressive final where join the musk, the brioche and the fruits fresh, very rich in aromas like of structure, round and highly-strung person at the same time, of guard, to open on a lobster. Very beautiful Windfallen wood First vintage Beauroy 2005, of a very large smoothness, of beautiful harmony, where intermingle with the nuances of chèvrefeuille, ripe apple and brioche, a persistent elegance in mouth, very out of structure, very well-balanced. Remarkable Premier Cru Côte de Léchet 2005, of mouth powerful, rich in bouquet, of a beautiful smoothness, with the notes of dry fruits, structured and scented, full and persistent, a wine of excellent evolution, to open on gambas Or snails. The Premier Cru Montmains, with the nuances of lime, ripe and honey, full quince, of very persistent mouth. Superb Premier Cru Fourchaume 2005, with the mineral nose where the citrus fruits and the dry small fruits, full and having a nice bouquet dominate, all in roundness, of spiced and dense mouth, all in aromatic persistence, with a musk point in finale which brings all its structure to him. Formidable quality-price-typicité ratio. Great art and the prototype of what is a wine maker worthy of this name, as they are liked.
